Thomas is two months!
He turned two months on the 28th of August, but seeing as I’m still experiencing computer problems (hard drive, please come soon…) I’m working with what I have! Well, Brandon’s computer is back now, and I can throw up a couple blogs, including Thomas’s monthly update! So let’s do it!
Now that we’re settling into our new routine, time has slowed down just a little bit. I feel like August didn’t fly by as fast, but I’m okay with that. Thomas has changed so much this month! And we’ve changed so much too. Brandon is back to flying missions out of country, Penny started preschool, and I’m slowly inching my way back into social life.
STATS: Can you believe I haven’t even weighed Thomas is weeks? So I’m basing my weight guess off of feel alone… and I would say he’s a good 12 pounds. That’s what I tell people, anyway! He’s grown in length, based off of his clothing fit, so he’s probably at least 24 inches. I could be way off, but next week he has his two month appointment, and I’ll get some solid measurements. He’s outgrowing his 0-3 month clothes, solidly in 3 months, and a few smaller 3-6 month clothes. This poses a problem, because he’s going to outgrow his Halloween and Christmas outfits before it’s even the season! Serves me right for assuming he would be like Penny, right?
Anyway, his eyes are still dark brown, and his hair is dirty blond, like Penny’s hair color. He has long hair right on top, I could make a little mohawk! He looks a lot like his Dad; I think all he inherited from me is drooling in his sleep. He’s wearing a size 2 disposable, but cloth diapers at home. He has more sensitive skin than Penny ever did, but we control it fairly well.
EAT: I have been blessed with great nursers, and am so thankful about it. He is efficient about breastfeeding, very quick! He still spits up a lot. I don’t think it’s reflux, because it doesn’t bother him, but we’ve gotten handy at having blankets nearby to catch the mess! He’s a talker when he eats, which is super cute, but will be a problem when he’s older. He will pop off and just smile and talk to me. It’s adorable.
PLAY: Since about six weeks, he’s been doing more and more. He likes to lay on the playmat and wiggle his legs and arms, and smile up at the toys hanging above him. Sometimes he grabs things by accident, but I know in a few weeks it’ll start being intentional. He is very relaxed and mellow about lying around, too. He loves staring and talking to interesting patterns: Robots, spaceships, chevrons, anything colorful and different. He likes to stare up at Penny and smile as well. They’ll have a great relationship!
SLEEP: He has a really good pattern most nights. He goes to sleep around 7pm, and then doesn’t get up until close to 2am. The last week, he’s been up for a good hour in the middle of the night, because he has a habit of pooping then it wakes him up. He is chill at night too, he just wants to stare at the lights on the fans and stuff.
Our current problem, and it isn’t even one, is that he is very particular about his comfort. He doesn’t like lying on his back to sleep. He likes to be on his side or his stomach, but in a certain way. I guess Brandon was like this too as a kid, so maybe he got that gene, huh? Sometimes it’s just hard to find that perfect position! He doesn’t like napping in the car because of this, though he does awesome in the carriers.
NEW: The biggest change this month is his smiling and babbling. He loves to gift us with big smiles when we talk to him, and he likes to try and repeat the sounds we’re making. He’s much more interactive with play.
PENNY: Penny does so well with him. She is the best big sister I could ever ask for. She helps replace pacifiers and get towels for spit up. She watches him for a few moments if I need to run out of the room. She gets on the floor and talks to him in her sing-song voice. She rarely complains about him – only if he’s kicking or hitting her when he flails out his limbs. I’m so proud of how she has been with him!
So yeah, life is good with this little boy. I tell him constantly just how sweet and handsome he is. I can see he is already turning into a baby, less newborn, and I can imagine how he might look at three years old. I am just so thankful for him. Thankful he is a relatively calm baby. Thankful we have adjusted. Thankful for what we have created. Our family just feels so wonderful right now!
