I tried Stitch Fix last year and, well, it didn’t work out so well. Long story short: My first fix went alright, I was pretty pleased. Then they changed my stylist, and my next fix just sucked. So I told them my issue, and they gladly sent me a replacement. Great customer service. Except my stylist still had no clue what was what, and it was a dud. So I quit. I said, never again!
Never say never, right?
A year later, I was sort of getting the itch to try it again… I had seen other blogs about it, and learned some new tricks, so I thought, let’s do it. Just once. I’m glad I did!
My stylist this time, Nesha, was totally on top of it. Even before I saw the actual clothes, I knew she had it right. I love that they send these cards with styling ideas. Every outfit felt totally “me” and I couldn’t wait to try everything on and, of course, take photos. So without further ado…
ITEM #1: Papermoon Kualo Bow Back Knit Top
Likes: Fabric, stripes, length, bow
Dislikes: Not much!
My favorite favorite of the whole box, I think. Except maybe the leggings I’m wearing (more on that later). It’s hard to tell in the photo, but the stripes are actually a dark navy and cream, but they work with black pants or jeans. On my Pinterest board, I had all kinds of stripes, because I love stripes. This is going to be a go-to outfit this winter, I think.
ITEM #2: Laila Jayde Alven Knit Top
Likes: More stripes! Soft fabric. Great length.
Dislikes: A little loose/empire waist
I was unsure about yet another striped shirt, even though I love me some stripes. But these ones are different – black and dark gray. The cut of the shirt is obviously different too. It’s a bit looser around the waist, like an empire waist, which is great now when I have weight to lose, but what happens when I’m skinny again? I think I could still rock it, though, and it looks awesome with my leggings!
ITEM #3: 41Hawthorn Beatrice Exposed Zipper Dolman Top
Likes: Length, silky fabric, interesting zipper detail
Dislikes: Dolman sleeves, clingy
I wasn’t sure about this one at all. The Dolman sleeves, which I had no idea what those were until after I had this shirt, felt really awkward. This top was the least like my style. But I don’t know, it wasn’t bad, you know? It’s comfortable, it looks good in leggings, and I can do a lot with it. And when I posted it on Facebook, all my friends thought it looked great! So maybe?
ITEM #4: 41Hawthorn Concord Striped Draped Pocket Cardigan
Likes: Color, fabric, length
Dislikes: Not much!
Verdict: Keep it!
I wanted a cardigan and I got a cardigan! I was worried because my last fixes DID include cardigans, but they weren’t my style. This one is perfect. I love the color, it’s unlike anything I have in my closet, and it feels so luxurious. I think I’ll be wearing it a lot. There was no question about keeping this one.
ITEM #5: Rune Kiley Ankle Zip Leggings
Likes: Fabric, zipper
Dislikes: Not much!
Just like the cardigan, I wanted leggings, and I got leggings. I don’t have much to say except that these will be perfect for the fall and winter. So comfy and will go with a whole lot of stuff in my wardrobe.
So what did I end up doing? I kept it all! Because in the end, with the box discount and the 25% off for all the items, the difference was slim, I just decided to keep the whole box. I’m slowly rotating through my wardrobe to get rid of old stuff, so these will replace my cheapo things.
- Make a Pinterest board. My friends told me this so many times and I ignored them… and then I did it. It worked. She even commented how she saw my Pinterest board and it helped her. Now I want to add more stuff! It was so quick and easy, and it really steered the fix in the right direction.
- Be prepared for the prices. It isn’t cheap, even at the cheapest options. Each item in my box was $40-60.
- Be specific on your profile. Uncheck boxes you aren’t comfortable with. They will send jewelry or whatever, and if you don’t want it, make sure it isn’t an option! They have places to be specific about how you like the fit and cut of items. Just tell them!
