This Saturday, my friend (who blogs over at Hearts on Guard) dragged me out to run a Mud Run! I was skeptical at first, and doubtful about our decision during the thing, but it turned out to be tons of fun. Here are some highlights.
The weather was surprisingly good. Except when we got there, when it was coooold. We were hardly wearing anything to run in, just compression pants and light shirts, but those turned out to be a good decision once the sun came up and we got wet. It was January, after all. My toesies were cold!
Pre-race… before the madness began.
The obstacles were easy… except for how cold they were! The first obstacle was an over-under, and you practically had to go underwater. Oh my goodness, it was bad. I haven’t been in water that cold in a long time. My body froze up and I could barely breathe! It felt nice to get out of that thing haha.
The other obstacles were just as fun. Log jumps; slides into mud, sand and water; crawling underneath nets in mud and sand; hay bale climbs; tunnels; and an especially fun trek through a portion of the lake. Every time we hit a new obstacle we groaned, but we tackled them!
The run itself went well. The terrain was along the edge of the property and forest, down some dirt driveways, and across fields. There were some steep hills but we made it up. I’m pretty sure we ran the entire way… except when we slowed down as we came to an obstacle!
Was it muddy? Yeah! But we washed off in the lake as we swam through! By the time we crossed the finish line we were fairly clean, just soaking wet with sandy butts.
I’m glad we got to do it! It was so much fun. The next one is in March and I’m kind of tempted to do it again. Why not, right?
Our time was 43.36 (my personal goal was 45!) and we tied for 30th place. Go us!

How fun!
Looks like a great time.
Good job! Ive not been brave enough to try one of these because I’m scared of heights. Were there any obstacles that height was involved?

39:36 actually since we were second wave, but it was a blast
Andrea — you should totally sign up for the March one with her! I am DEATHLY afraid of heights, and the worst part was the top of one slide, but it wasn’t bad.
