Day Two Hundred Forty-Three

1. Work went well today. It was busy, but not horrible busy, and I had stuff to do the whole time. Today was my last day working until after Brandon's R&R. Now the next few days will be preparation!

2. Because I work at a ticket office, I can submit FAM (familiarization) requests for different activities. For Brandon's R&R, I submitted four: Parasailing, whale watch, booze cruise and a helicopter ride. For the first two, I only have to pay for Brandon. The booze cruise has us both going free. I've been waiting to hear about the helicopter ride, and finally did today! So excited! I'm going free and Brandon is going 50% off! It's an amazing deal. I'm so anxious for him to get here!

3. I've been checking the weather for the start of next week and it kinda sucks. Don't be dumb, weather, when Brandon is here!

4. I went on a run after work. I ran 8 and a half minutes this time. It felt great!

5. For dinner, I marinated a turkey tenderloin and tried to grill it. Well... I'm still learning. It didn't taste anything like the marinade, only like charred turkey tenderloin. Oh well, at least the quinoa and salad tasted good.

6. If you said you'd be a guest blogger, remember that I need them by the end of the week. I don't know if I told you all!

Day Two Hundred Forty-Two

Not much to report today. I finally finished the book I've been reading for a month, so I can move to the next Outlander Series book, Drums of Autumn. So excited!

I spent the morning going grocery shopping, cleaning the house a bit and chatting with Brandon. He's getting closer and closer to getting here and time seems to be slowing down! Hurry about time!

This afternoon I hung out with Christina (of course!) and we went to Wal-Mart for a bit. I needed to get two more prints for a photo project I've been meaning to do since Brandon left. I have 3 photo frames (well, one collection is 3 separate, but whatever). One has wedding photos of me, Jessica and Shannon. The other has 3 of our professional photos that we took pre-deployment. The last is a collection of sister photos that we had taken during my sister Jenny's 30th birthday in 2009, right before I left for Hawaii. I hung these all up in the hallway leading to my bedroom.

Here's the sister one.

(Jenny on top, Jessica right underneath. Shannon on the right, me in the right bottom corner. The boys are up in the upper right with the older sisters, and Jess & I are the bottom. In the middle is all four of us in a tree!)

I'm proud of it! It'll be nice to be able to look at these pictures every time I go down my hall!

I finished watching The Tudors at home (well, Disc 2, anyway) and have now sat down to watch the Oscars. They air SO LATE here! One of the bad things about Hawaii - I can't even go on Facebook because people will be talking about it, haha.

Day Two Hundred Forty-One

I feel bad for anyone who encountered me today at work. I looked a bit like this.

But you know what, I had a good reason to. Or maybe not. I was tired from the night before and some people I work with were trying my patience. I really need to learn how to be patient with people, but sometimes it just gets to me. And I look like this.

It didn't help that the credit card machines weren't working at the beginning of the day. Either I turned people away to go get cash or I had to do hand receipts. That sucks. And when I ran cash transactions, my system took about 5 minutes to reload. After every sale. That sucked for people who had multiple transactions to do!

Towards the end of the day, I just wanted to go out of there. I wanted to go home and sit around and do nothing. I just wanted to scream and throw a fit!

You know what? Looking at all these cute monsters has cheered me up a bit! I love cute monsters, happy or sad!

This evening was our typical Saturday Dinner, hosted by Michelle. I drove down with Christina. She was planning on going early, but couldn't because of Marcus's nap. We ate fajitas (delicious!), drank some Moscato that I provided, and had a cookies & cream cake for dessert.

Now I'm home watching The Tudors. Tomorrow I've pledged to spend most of the day getting some things done around the house and just taking my time. The last week has seen me going going going and it's time I take a chill pill!

Thanks for the wonderful response on guest bloggers!! I have so many lined up! If you didn't get a chance to volunteer and you want to, feel free. R&R IS 15 days, after all. ;)

Day Two Hundred Forty

R&R is approaching! Do you want to help me out with a guest blog?

When Christina picked me up this morning, she said, "Did you know you had a couple FedEx packages at your door?" Why, no I didn't! It doesn't help that I rarely use my front door since we park in the back. I wonder how long they were there!

Anyway, one box had my edited manuscript, thanks to a lovely friend I met in Georgia. I need to dig into that! The other bag contained a prize that I had won off a blog contest! Cool!!

This morning I went to the North Shore to help Christina with a maternity photo shoot. It was so nice to sit in the sun and feel the water on my feet. I miss the beach so much, but never find time to go! Plus, my beach-going buddy is in a whole different sandy place.

Anyway, the photo shoot went well and I'm sure she got some great pictures. We even had Marcus join in the fun! He wouldn't smile, of course. ;)

A shot down the beach. So much better in person!

Beautiful water and reef.

I live in Hawaii!! I can't believe it sometimes!

We stopped at Kono's in Haleiwa for a breakfast burrito (for Christina) and banana macadamia waffles (for me!).

I headed over to Christina's house afterwards with the dog so she could go with Courtney to Costco. I was "watching" Marcus while he slept, and I worked on some spouse's club stuff. When they got home, we chatted a bit until Courtney decided to get the carseat she was looking at... so they went back! All the while, I chilled, watched TV and yelled at the dogs. It was kind of nice. :)

Then tonight we went to go see Showstoppers with the Blue Star Card program. It was basically a show with a bunch of musical numbers of famous Broadway musicals. It was good, but got kind of tiring after song after song after song. I'm glad to be home now and am extremely tired, I can barely type properly!

Day Two Hundred Thirty-Nine

Twelve years ago today, my mom drove my sisters and I across the border from Canada to Vermont. I was wearing an Olympic hat because that year they had some cool hats and everyone got them. True story. As we were crossing the border my mom told me to take it off. I fought her a bit, but then I resigned. Oh well.

We ended up somewhere in Vermont at some official government office. My sister and I were being sworn in as Americans - naturalized citizens of the USA. I still have my citizenship paperwork (I better not lose it!) with an ugly photo of my 11 year-old self and a cute cursive signature on the bottom. Once it was all said and done, we (little sister and I) both got letters from President Clinton welcoming us into the country. What did I say?

"This isn't his real signature, it's a photocopy!" My mom nearly died there!

So yeah, I've been anticipating this day for a little while now. This day marks me being almost exactly half Canadian and half American! I guess the real half date will be on my birthday in about 5 weeks, but today is my Citizenship Day. Soon, I'll be more American than Canadian. That's ok with me though ;)

I had an awesome day, by the way. I guess it wasn't anything out of ordinary... but it was good. Except for my freaking Netflix disc not working...

I helped Christina at the hospital today, watching Marcus in the waiting room. She's due in 11 days!! She wanted me there just in case something happened so I could take care of Marcus. Everything went well though! We then had lunch at Ruby Tuesday's and shopped around the NEX for a bit. Back home, we let the dogs chase each other (she's watching another friend's crazy pug puppy), and picked out outfits for her maternity photo shoot tomorrow.

I came home and just hung out, really. I'm feeling kind of tired!

Day Two Hundred Thirty-Eight

I discovered Dexter's afraid of thunder today. Not very surprising given his reaction on the Fourth of July. On my break, I pulled into the driveway and saw through the fence as he ran towards me, his tail between his legs. That's his "loud-noise" run. I figured something had dropped - but what could've dropped in the backyard?

When I stepped out of the car and opened the gate, he charged for me to hide behind my legs, and then I heard the rumble of thunder. Poor guy. He spent my whole break behind me or beside me, and I had to cuddle him a bit to make him feel better.

I'm tired!! I rushed after work to get a Popeye's dinner and go to Christina's to babysit Marcus while she had a meeting. Of course, I was late. It didn't help that every light was red and every car I got behind was slow. Of course. Oh, and my window was working this morning, so I rolled it down a bit to go through the drive-through. Now it won't roll back up. UGH!!!

Well, I did get some good news this morning. We have dates! I finally know when he's flying out (barring any issues) and tentatively when he's arriving. I love it! I'm so excited and it'll be hard to wait.

Day Two Hundred Thirty-Seven

Ah, another work day. Just when I was getting used to having days off! It started out kind of rough (I just really didn't want to be working...) but for some reason, the whole day went by quickly. I can't complain though!

I've been looking into getting a paralegal certificate or real estate license. I dunno. I want to be a writer, but when I'm not writing I'm finding other things I could do. I feel bad for wanting to leave my job to concentrate on my writing because it's not bringing anything in right now, you know?

Anyway, I'm done feeling bad! I wanna give a shout-out to Jennie, a blog follower who happened to come into work today. I told her I would. ;)

I went on a run after work and it was wonderful! I pushed myself to go an extra minute and I'm glad I did. Dexter loved it too!

Anyone watch Glee tonight? I really enjoyed it!

Oh, and Brandon finds it funny to raise my anxiety levels, like... "I'm gonna call you when I arrive in Hawaii!" and "Maybe I'll just take a cab home to surprise you." Um, no sir!

Day Two Hundred Thirty-Six

Brandon, with his extreme superpowers, fixed the surround sound while we chatted on the phone this morning. He said, "The first thing I would do is see if the subwoofer is touching anything." So I did, and it was. I moved it. Now it works. Yay Brandon!

Christina and I went to the zoo this morning! I had never been to the zoo here. It was nice. The weather outside is very "voggy," meaning hazy, whiteish, like fog pretty much but caused by the volcano. That made it muggy and humid. We were both sweating just walking around the zoo! I miss dry weather, though I shouldn't complain about being in Hawaii. :P

Marcus was looking cool in his hat and sunglasses. He only kept them on until we walked into the zoo.

The giraffes are my favorite!! At the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in CO, you can actually pet and feed the giraffes. It's cool!

In the gift shop, I had to try on some hats.
Pursed lips! I'm on a safari!

I'm a shark!

I'm a crocodile!!

After the zoo, we headed across the highway to Le Crepe Cafe, a little restaurant where they make only crepes. We eat these crepes at the farmer's market all the time and months ago I had bought a Groupon for the place. Since we never make it down to that area, we had to go! (It was that or Whole Foods. Tough decision!)

We both got the monthly special, called the Elvis Special. OMG, DELICIOUS. It was peanut butter, nutella, strawberries, blueberries and bananas. It was heaven on earth.

Back home, Jennifer came over to help me cut down Mervin, my huge tree growing in the backyard. I forgot to take pictures, whoops. Christina came to hang out too and let Marcus run around my backyard. After the job was done (and it looks good too) we played some Wii and spent time chatting. A nice day!

I finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society last night. Crap! Now I don't have a fiction book to read! Should I start my next one or try to finish this George Bush book so I'm just done with it?

Day Two Hundred Thirty-Five

Have you ever read The Five Love Languages? I read it about a year ago and took the test; come to find out, my love language is Physical. Huh! It makes sense, though. A hug can make my day, a good back rub will make me forget my anxieties and stress, and I love to cuddle.

Obviously, being Physical doesn't work so well with Brandon on the other side of the world. For the last 235, almost 8 months, I've suppressed those feelings and any thoughts of hugs and kisses, rather successfully, I might add. Except in the last week as each day brings me closer to seeing my husband, those thoughts I've pushed back are coming back full force. It's nice, sure, but it's also kind of bad. I'm just so looking forward to hugging Brandon that time is slowing down. I can't keep thinking these thoughts!

In other news.... my blog commenting goal today? I did it! Luckily Sunday produces less blogs than normal, so I was let off easy. I did run into a couple issues with my internet cookies not letting me comment... hmm...

Also, my driver side window controls have ceased working. Great, can't roll down my windows. Oh, and I think one of the speakers or the subwoofer is blown out on the surround sound. I don't even watch TV that loudly! Everything is falling apart!

As for today, it was a nice day off. I went on a bike ride, browsed through the Farmer's Market, hung out with Christina and made a friendship bracelet, played some Sims, finished watching Disc 1 of Season 4 of The Tudors, and cleared my DVR list! Score.

Day Two Hundred Thirty-Four

Yay! 150 followers!! Welcome to my blog!

I feel kind of bad, coming on 150 followers. I read and follow a lot of blogs but I've found I comment less and less these days. I really don't read half the blogs, even my favorites, but skim them for interesting notes before moving on. This has to stop! Either I need to concentrate more or weed down my reading list. I think tomorrow I will read and comment on every blog I open. I plan on it!

Otherwise... today was a good day. I worked, it was sorta busy, but that's ok. I got kinda annoyed by all the people coming in at the end of the day until I met my shoe twin. She has the same Vibrams AND the same Sanuk's! She also hates pink. Soul mate? ;)

We had our usual Saturday dinner tonight, as a belated Valentine's dinner. I made a pork tenderloin, Sarah brought a yummy fruit salad, Michelle provided mashed potatoes, and Christina served delicious wine (of which I drank too much) and a red velvet cake. It was great! We also played Bezzerwizzer and just had fun chatting. Courtney made an appearance later after sadly dropping her husband off at the airport. :( I'm so looking forward to Brandon coming home, but not saying bye again!

And now I'm going to start Season 4 of The Tudors, which just came in the mail today!!

Day Two Hundred Thirty-Three

Can you believe it's already Day 233? Do you remember Day 1? Or Day 33? Or even Day 133?

I was going to hold off showing my DOM for March 1st, but I figured I don't have to follow my own rules if I don't want to. (That thought gets me into a lot of trouble, btw). Now this is still with the original leave date of July 1, 2010 and a "coming home" date of July 1, 2011. You know that's not true. ;)

So awesome!

I have a funny story. Yesterday at the event we went to there was a P90X booth. I stopped to chat with the guy, saying that Brandon and I want to do the program when he gets home. The guy goes on to recommend a different workout program that's geared towards women, scooting me away from the P90X program because he knows girls "don't want to get all bulky." Um, hello, I want to do P90X! I'm not worried about getting bulky... I used to do a million pushups a day and didn't get bulky.

Anyway, I wanted to tell you that story yesterday but forgot! Whoops.

I had a great day today. Oh my goodness, it feels SO weird to have three days off in a row. It shouldn't feel weird. I'm afraid to get into another schedule, so I've spent my time being lazy, waiting for the next workday. Today was no different. It was so nice! I went grocery shopping with Christina, chatted with Brandon, caught up on some DVR, and managed to slip in some Sims time. I spent the afternoon at Wal-Mart and K-Mart, and also getting some Menchie's frozen yogurt. Yum! We also walked the dogs.

When I got home, I got a lovely early surprise in the mail!

Two of my Paperback Swap books! Douglas Coupland is one of my all-time favorite authors, and I love Jodi Picoult. I just have to put these on my "to read" pile. Oh my goodness, that pile is getting HUGE. I'm reading three books right now, and have way too many more waiting for me. It shouldn't be such a chore, huh?

Hope you all had a good week!!

Day Two Hundred Thirty-Two

I've played a buttload of Sims today. It's an addiction and I rekindled it! It's so much fun though.

I had another day off and nothing really planned, so I spent 4 hours playing Sims in the morning. I tore myself away when my blood sugar was so low and my body was screaming for lunch. I caught up on some DVR'd shows during that time. Relaxing!

While I waited for Christina to arrive, I got to cleaning the house a bit. My main goal was to reorganize my upper pantry - and I did! Like I said before, I'm in a "nesting" phase as I'm getting ready for Brandon to come home. Soon!!

After Christina got here we headed across the park to the community center, where they were holding this event. We toured around the booths and entered in some raffles. She won a couple tickets to a catamaran sail and I won a children's book! Haha. I gave that to her, since Dexter hasn't learned to read yet. ;) We played on the park with Marcus and hung out until the final drawing for a $100 GC at AAFES.

Now I'm watching the NBC comedy lineup and working on a new story idea!

Day Two Hundred Thirty-One

I have trouble turning my mind from work to play. I had the day off today and still, I wake up at the same time and go to bed at the same time. It wasn't like this a few years back, but maybe it was different because I was in college? I don't know!

Anyway, it's fine that I woke up like normal today because I had kickboxing to go to! I love kickboxing, as you know. I could do it every day. It's a great combination of cardio and strength training, plus tons of cool moves and bad-ass kicks ;). It gave me a good feeling all day!

I chatted with Brandon the rest of the morning until he went to bed (ah, we haven't done that in ages!) and then headed off to Christina's to hang out. Once Marcus woke up from his nap when headed down the road to the dog park. It's still on post, well the one right beside ours, and is hidden in the back. It's beautiful! I wish my phone took good pictures of it today so I could show you!

The rest of the afternoon I relaxed, and now I'm watching a movie, like I do every Wednesday. :)

I knew this month would go slow and I'm starting to feel it now. I'm just so looking forward to Brandon being home for R&R!

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

Day Two Hundred Thirty

Brandon and I were talking about our ages today. I told him he can't be treated like a little boy anymore since he'll be 26 this year. That made us stop. 26?! And I'll be 24 this year? The first time I met Brandon he was 19, a few weeks shy of 20, and I was 18. Where did time go?

And I know, we're not old... but sometimes, I feel like such a grown up!

Another revelation today? R&R is coming up quick! We're halfway through this month and every day brings us closer. We still don't know when exactly he'll be leaving, but we've heard some good news on his end that gives us a rough estimate. Only a couple more weeks until March!

Hey, check out my interview! I answered some questions for Home is Where the Heart Is about being a military wife. There's some more cute pictures!

Not much happened today, by the way. Work was busy, but not as bad as yesterday. Yesterday was bad. Combination of deployments approaching, payday and Valentine's = deadly. Tomorrow I'm finally going to kickboxing again. I'm beyond excited!

Still looking for some more guest bloggers! If you want to, anyway. :)

Day Two Hundred Twenty-Nine

Hi Brando.
It's me, Chantal.
Today is Valentine's Day; the day of love, the one day of the year where we really stop to recognize each other amidst the chaos of life. Sure, every day should be a love day... but today is the love day.
So hey, I love you!

Thanks for the gifts, by the way!
I made everyone jealous because I kept talking about how you spoil me. You really do spoil me! But I spoil you sometimes, too. We just like to buy each other gifts.
I kept reassuring people that this year was unusual, that I didn't get this kind of treatment on V-day.
But...
Our first one, I got the diamond necklace that I still wear now.
Last year? My Swatch!
Thanks, love!

And now, without further ado, I give you...
Brandon & Chantal Through the Years
(because sometimes we need to be reminded how cute we are together, huh?)

One of our first pictures together. So young! So thin!
Our first kissing picture. Sorta.
Snowfort!
This was our trip to the Sand Dunes the weekend after we got engaged. I rolled down a dune. We got attacked by mosquitos. It was fun!
At your commissioning - ah I looked good in uniform.
You do, too. ;)
Happy Marriage-Day!
On our honeymoon. You sure love that waterproof camera.
You left right after the honeymoon, but I visited you in Washington! That was a good trip!
Sometime later, we lived in Georgia.
I shot you in the back. I win.
Hey, we live in Hawaii now!
Remember the German-looking woman who was dancing like a Hawaiian? She was funny.
Happy Valentine's Day, Notes!!

Love,

Day Two Hundred Twenty-Eight

This morning Dexter and I went on a bike ride. I think he enjoys it... I mean, his ears are up and he's pretty happy by the end. I try to go slow enough to keep him at a steady jog, though I slow down sometimes so he can get a little breather. The only bad thing about biking with him? He'll randomly run off the sidewalk into the street when he sees something scary in front of him. Not cool.

Ugh, just realized I forgot to start my laundry. It's too late now!

I've been having a few days of sugar rush. It's bad. My body feels weird. I blame this the macadamia nuts that I won on Thursday, the brownies/cupcakes vendors keep bringing into work, and the delicious Ferrero Rocher Brandon sent to me. I can't stop myself! I restrict my sugar intake a lot, so once I eat something sugary, it throws my whole system off. I keep craving it more and more. Darn Valentine's Day. ;)

Around lunchtime Christina and I went down to Target. I was just going to buy a new workout shirt, but I also got a CD I've been wanting for some time, a new planner, and some storage bins for our vanities. I'm in a "nesting" period since Brandon's R&R is coming up. I've been reorganizing and cleaning up my cupboards.

I've had a lovely day off, though it never feels like there's enough hours in the day. I want to do so much, but I don't have the time to do it! You know what I mean?

Interested in guest blogging when Brandon is here for R&R? Let me know!

Day Two Hundred Twenty-Seven

This is a picture heavy post... but you'll be glad you read to the end!!

I had one of the best days I've had in a long time. It was so amazing! Read on. :D

I started the day by finishing up a short story for a competition, which was due today. I'm very happy for how it turned out. As I was drying my hair later, the doorbell rings. On the other side? An Edible Arrangement!

Gift #5. Brandon assures me that no more are arriving. I've become very spoiled this year! I want to let you guys know, this is unusual... but I like it. ;)

Today, Christina had Marcus in free childcare from 9-2, so we took advantage of the time for just ourselves and decided to go down to Honolulu. We went to the big, nice mall there, shopping at some of our favorite stores. We had lunch here:
You'll find out why soon.

Back at rainy Schofield, we attended a Fitness Expo. We got a bunch of free swag and both one prizes! Christina won an ab machine and I won $25 to the commissary. Not too shabby.

The big excitement came this evening when we attended a free concert for the Lt Dan Band. It was wonderful!!
We saw Gary Sinise UP CLOSE.

Wait, who's that beside Gary?

Yeah, that's me!! They pulled a bunch of us onstage to dance and of course, I had to do it. After the dancing we began to file off and people started getting pictures with him. I whipped my phone out and CLICK! I was shaking with excitement.
One of the singers. They are all amazing!
Aaaaand Marcus fell asleep. Poor kid had a few meltdowns, he was so tired.
Another singer and Lt Dan!
Talking about how awesome the military is.

This poor guy got pulled onstage while he was just pulling security. Two of the woman singers serenaded him with 'Natural Woman'
The entire band!!

It was an OMG kind of day. It was just fantastic. Really no low point. Maybe the fact that I didn't sleep well the night before because of my sugar high? But I had good dreams!!

Hey, want to help me out a be a guest blogger? Let me know!!
