Day One Hundred Eighty-Eight

I realized on my walk today after work that I felt really happy. I wanted to do a little hop-ski-jump! Then I got to thinking, why? I'm pretty sure I found the reason: today was the second day in a row I got to webcam with Brandon. Man, does it feel good. I love seeing his pretty face! Yeah, I called your face pretty, deal with it :P

Today at work I had a couple new people shadowing me on and off. Well, I'm not so good at helping new people because I'm Speedy McSpeed when it comes to my work. I know what I need to do and I forget to slow down to explain things. Sorry new people! I do have some good news for you all though. First, then fixed my name on my Eagle Award. Second, take note of all those nifty gold stars. Each one represents a positive customer comment.

Once I got home and finished my walk, I decided to knock off one of my deployment to-do's - learn to barbecue! I've sorta barbecued before, but today I'm calling it official. It really isn't that hard, after all. So I fired up the barbecue and got a salmon steak ready to cook.

First, I slathered it with butter, poured on some lemon juice, scraped on some garlic (yum I love garlic) and then finished off with pepper. I placed it onto the foil first.

I then rolled up the foil all pretty and nice.

Next, I cut up some cauliflower, mixed it with lemon juice and an olive oil/garlic/chardonnay mix thing I have, plus some more pepper.

Then I tossed everything on the barbecue! I cooked the salmon for about 15 minutes and the cauliflower for 10.

It came out great!! My meal was delicious! It's healthy and yummy, you can't beat that.

I've been eating WAY more fish than ever before and finding new ways to make it. When Brandon's home we eat kind of bad... he really likes beef. He likes steak, hamburgers, meatloaf, bratwurst (ok, not beef, but he likes them!). I like this stuff too, but I much prefer having chicken, turkey and fish. So that's what I eat now. I actually haven't cooked beef myself in awhile. I eat way more vegetables too since he's been gone. He likes potatoes... yeah, he's a meat and potatoes kind of guy. Sorry, Brandon, when you get home things are gonna change a bit :P.

See, there are some good things that come from deployment! You can cook what you want!

Do you change your eating habits when your spouse is away?


  1. OccDoc and I eat really healthy at home (I only eat fish, therefore only cook fish, and OccDoc would rather eat what I cook than cook himself). But we are terrible when we eat out. We probably eat a week's worth of calories at just one meal we eat out at. I have not been eating out hardly at all. I allow myself one meal eaten out or take out a week.

  2. Yay for the webcam two days in a row and for conquering the grill!! I would eat fish more, but Kevin is a meat and potatoes guy too and doesnt really like fish :( I plan on seafooding it up when he goes TDY next month hehe

  3. I usually eat worse... I hate cooking for myself. It gets depressing cooking and then having leftovers, so I would always opt for take out.

  4. Yay for so many gold stars!! I always hated having to train people at work.. I have no patience lol. Your cooking looked super yummy, even though I have to admit, I'm a meat and potato's kind of girl! :P

  5. I sooooo want to learn how to use our grill! And yes, I do change my eating habits when hubby is gone. In fact, I have a whole section of recipes in my recipe box that are just for me when he's gone.
